Cain & April

Cain and April is a singer-songwriter duo based in Denver, Colorado. April Nicholle began singing on stage at the age of 11 and began composing songs and playing guitar in her early twenties. She performed in numerous clubs in Fort Worth, Dallas, and Denton, Texas, before moving to Denver in 2007. Mark Kane has been lead guitar and singer in several bands, as well as being a prolific songwriter. He plays 12-string acoustic guitar and also electric guitar in the duo. In July, Cain and April recorded eight original songs for the EP, First Aid Songs, at 8 Houses Down recording studio, and in January of 2009 they finished recording sixteen tracks for their first full-length album, How It Caught Fire, which will be released in the spring. They were joined by Uncle Dick Meis from Denver Joe and the Lovesick Saddle Tramps on pedal steel, Sundog Stan from Medina and The Dave Preston Band on drums and percussion, cellist Samuel Araya, and clarinetist Shaun Burley. Jay Ryan will be joining them live on bass, along with Stan and others. In addition to their originals, Cain and April play covers ranging from Gillian Welch to Nirvana, mirroring their eclectic influences. The songlist continues to expand. Cain and April will be recording more original songs soon and will be playing shows around Denver and Boulder, with occasional side trips to Texas and other places.
