Finding Fiction

Finding Fiction is Mario Santana, Josh Coleman, Tim Farr and Scott Eisenberg. Driven by a DIY work ethic, this NYC foursome write, record, book their shows, pack their van and hit the road as one cohesive unit supported by their own grassroots Mgmt/PR team. Touring all over the country with a passion to have their music heard, they coil soft hooks and patient song writing in a warm, yet raw indie-rock soundscape.

They spend days networking between venues in cities they wish to grace while befriending fellow bands as they zig-zag their way across the country, touring in backalley bars or scene heavy coffee shops. They spend nights in the studio making noise, telling jokes, and conspiring. Touring in their van, they describe themselves as “…a bunch of real clowns.” Then on stage they’re focused, and tempered; while simultaneously light-hearted and playful.

When asked about their creative approach, singer/guitarist Mario Santana is surprisingly candid. “Ideas usually start with me sitting at my macbook at 3 a.m. noodling out guitar licks and piecing together witty lines from some book I’m reading at the time. Ha. After that the goal is to take the skeleton of that idea as a group, reinterpret it and, with any luck, render it completely unrecognizable. More perspiration or inspiration? I’m not sure.”

It’s true NYC births bands at an astronomical rate. Many of them rise in the late afternoon and die in the corner bar the following night with no one even there to hear them. But what happens when a working band rises early and works late? When they’ll play for two people or two hundred? When they dig their feet in and work as hard as they play?

“We’re having a blast, but it’s also really about the work for us at this point. These moments make us feel normal, connected… rehearsing or playing live, in a van on the road listening to jams or telling jokes…nothing else matters. We just never want to take anything for granted. I mean, we’re out here playing music full-time and living a life we’ve always dreamed of and it just makes us want to work even harder to be able to keep doing this.”

Preparing for the self-release of their full-length debut ‘Idaho by the Sea’ on June 2nd, and gearing up for their summer-fall tour in support of the album release.
