When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth

This is what happens when kids get bored and start banging on pots and pans. When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth is neither a movie nor based on the one that shares its name. Rather, the band is a smash-down, a drag race, a thunderstorm, and an acid trip all rolled up in one sticky, gooey sheet. Merging Tuxedo Killers, Dakota Building, Awesome Cool Dudes, and Oh, Beast!, the Dinos rock and squeal with two drummers (Daniel Francis Doyle and Brandon Crowe), two guitars (Marc Voorhees and Nate Cross), two screamers (Jesse Hodges and George Dishner), and one lonely bassist (Cory Plump). Erupting in 2005 after playing together as their aforementioned incarnations (all of which still exist), the Dinos stomped and stormed through myriad South by Southwest showcases, parties, and many nights of Red River goodness before issuing their Emperor Jones debut, Snacks, the next year. In less than half an hour of sludge, spaz, psych, and jest, WDRTE blows minds and asses. Hodges’ Furniture Records included the troupe on one of its tape-only Sheets of Easter Everywhere, a compilation of bands playing the ubiquitous Oneida song of the same name. – Darcie Stevens, Austin Chronicle
